Lucy on DCU world cup team

-

LUCY Managan from Kilmuckridge is one of six DCU students in London this week, taking part in the Enactus World Cup.

The Enactus competition promotes the use of innovation and entrepreneurial action to bring about social change. It brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to solve challenges in local communities.

Earlier this summer, Enactus DCU was crowned 2017 Enactus Ireland national champions, and the team will now compete on the global stage at the Enactus World Cup in London.

Three projects from the winning team will be presented at the World Cup, including: Second Scoop, an ex-prisoner work programme in partnership with Ben and Jerry’s, providing ice-cream for corporate events, festivals and fairs; Well On the Way, a social enterprise providing business apprenticeships to asylum seekers in order to integrate into Irish society; and HeadstARTS, a programme which provides weekly classes in dance, drama, music, and art for people with intellectual disabilities.

Alongside Lucy on the team are Mairéad McDonough, Daniel Kyne, Matthew Hewston, Margaret Hanlon and Aideen Foley. They saw off competition from nine other third level institutions to get the chance to represent Ireland in the competition.
