THE AirconMech Club Schools Initiative was launched at Buffers Alley clubhouse recently.

The launch which was carried out by chairman of Wexford GAA Derek Kent and guest speakers on the night were: Con Hourihane, principal, St. Joseph’s, Kilmuckridge; Brendan Roache, Principal, Court National School, Monamolin; Willie Cleary, Hurling Player Development Administrator with Wexford GAA, Johnny Dempsey, AirconMech and Derek Kent.

David Hughes, Club Chairman, was the MC for the event.

Both Mr Hourihane and Mr Roache embraced this club initiative which aims to promote and enhance the skills and development of the young boys and girls working in tandem with the two local primary schools.

The club’s two feeder schools are very supportive in strengthening the link between club and school as they strive to build for the future. Fourteen volunteers from the club will receive training in the coming days to prepare them to pass on their techniques and skills to the underage players when they visit the schools on a weekly basis.

Johnny Dempsey, speaking on behalf of AirconMech said he had been delighted when he was approached by Mick Farrell, Co- Ordinator of the Club School Link, asking the company to get involved in the exciting project adding he was looking forward to seeing the rewards in the coming years.

Willie Cleary, representing the Coaching Section of Wexford GAA was accompanied by Anthony Masterson, who was recently appointed as a football administrator, has been involved in Hurling 365 for a number of years and outlined the advantages of teaching children the correct drills from a young age with a big emphasis on the importance of young players practicing their skills every day.

Club Chairman David Hughes, praised the volunteerism that exists in the club and saying this is just one of the many good projects that the players and members have got involved with over the years. He wished both schools, their teachers and club volunteers every success as they embark on a new coaching journey in the coming weeks

Club Treasurer Aine O’Meara said that ‘as a club we are delighted to have so many strong businesses within our club base and on this occasion Johnny Dempsey and AirconMech are the ones who have generously stepped forward. This is such an important initiative for the future of our club and we wanted to ensure it was adequately funded. Through AirconMech’s generous sponsorship that is no longer a concern. We are extremely grateful to AirconMech and all our sponsors.’
