Flood appeal succeeds

CLOUGHBAWN HURLER Connal Flood was successful in his appeal against a one-match ban imposed by the local Central Competitions Control Committee (C.C.C.C.) recently.

Flood was dismissed when playing for his club in their Under-21 hurling championship game with Shamrocks, after which a one-game ban was imposed.

He still played in the subsequent Under-21 victories for Cloughbawn against Duffry Rovers and Geraldine O’Hanrahans, but it has been clarified that he was eligible to do so.

A spokesman for the Wexford C.C.C.C. said this week their committee dealt with the matter once the report was received by them from the County Board offices.

However, he refused to elaborate further on when it was received or if there was a delay in the handing over of the report.

Cloughbawn brought an appeal against the one-match ban to the Wexford appeals committee but lost out.

Last week they took their appeal to Leinster Council where it was upheld on a technicality.

Flood is now free to assist his club in the Under-21 hurling Roinn 1 championship final against Craanford, the game having been postponed on Saturday week last.

Meanwhile, St. Martin’s player Richard Devereux has been hit with a 36-week ban following an exchange with referee Seán Slaven in his club’s Junior ‘A’ hurling championship semi-final with Kilmore.

The suspension meant Devereux missed out on the club’s subsequent 3-14 to 0-15 final victory on Sunday over Glynn-Barntown in Oylegate.
