Rounders trio earn All Star awards
CONGRATULATIONS TO Emma Reddy, Kate Duggan and Ann Hanley of Glynn-Barntown rounders team who received All Star awards at the annual prize-giving in The Green Isle Hotel, Dublin, on Saturday.
The three ladies were joined by members of their double All-Ireland winning club as they received their coveted awards.
Emma received her award for her excellent pitching throughout the season. This is the first time the club has been honoured with this award and within the rounders community all know how difficult it is to achieve this honour.
Pitching requires great accuracy and speed and is notably the most difficult position within the game of rounders. Emma’s commitment and determination throughout her years of involvement have earned her this important award.
Emma has played for Glynn-Barntown Senior team for the last eleven years, and this year she was captain of the double All-Ireland winning team.
Kate’s award is for her position as left out field. Like her team-mates, she was up against tough opposition from many other players throughout Ireland for the title but through her tough resilience, determination and outstanding performances, Kate rightfully took home the award. Kate joined Glynn-Barntown club five years ago.
Ann was awarded her All Star for her consistent display of accuracy, determination and resilience as short stop. Having joined the club three years ago, she embraced this challenging role and delivered fine performances to enable her to see off tough competition from all other short stops in Ireland. The club secured their double All-Ireland title on August 26 in Abbotstown, Dublin.
Coach Catríona Walsh spoke of her pride watching the ladies winning the double All-Ireland title this year: ‘The ladies were very committed and determined in their quest to retain the title and securing three All Star Awards speaks volumes of the high standards all work towards within the club.
‘The unity, friendship and determination from all team members is a force to be reckoned with and this is a key factor to the club’s success.’
