Enniscorthy’s second loss

-

ENNISCORTHY RECORDED their second loss in the Leinster League after a disappointing display in Ashbourne on Saturday.

They got off to the best possible start when number 8 Nick Doyle fielded a high kick to score under the posts in the first minute. The first-half was evenly contested with both sides missing good scoring chances.

Ashbourne did go ahead after 25 minutes when their left winger caught an inside pass from scrumhalf Gavin Kennedy to race over under the posts. A penalty kick from out-half Ivan Poole levelled matters at 10-10 at the interval.

The momentum shifted towards the home side after the resumption with the Ashbourne pack starting to dominate.

Enniscorthy’s cause was not helped with the late cry-offs of both locks, Joe Carley and Glen Deacon.

Flanker Tom Ryan was also unavailable due to G.A.A. commitments. Enniscorthy just could not get enough good ball.

Ashbourne out-half Donal Crotty scored his second penalty ten minutes into the second-half. When their flanker, Conor Hurley, crashed over for a try ten minutes later, Enniscorthy had a mountain to climb. Although they pressed for a score late in the game, it did not come.

Enniscorthy now play Boyne in the Ross Road next Saturday at 3 p.m.

This is a must-win fixture for them if they are to challenge for the title this year.
