At the Ben 5k on Sunday in Wexford, Denis Moynihan led S.B.R. home with a brilliant second place finish in 17:43, only behind Niall Shiell of St. Killian’s. Joe Lillis was a very strong third in 18:01.

Ferns man and S.BR.. runner Liam Murphy, now of Offaly, had a great marathon debut in Berlin, clocking 3:51:53. Well done Liam.

S.B.R. made their presence felt at the Dublin half-marathon on Saturday in north county Dublin.

We had 17 finishers of the 6,500 over the 13.1 mile distance on a challengin­g course, with hills for the first half of the race and a nice finish.

Mary Carton led home the women in 2:00:03 which was a brilliant run. Mairéad O’Neill was close behind in 2:04:12, followed by Ursula O’Neill in a brilliant 2:05:59, and Frances O’Hagan in 2:16:15.

Jim O’Malley led the S.B.R. men home in 50th overall in 1:20:33. Tomás Kavanagh was next across in 1:22:06 for 72nd overall.

Eugene Doherty had a brilliant run, taking second in the Over-60 in 1:30:43. Also Tom Kavanagh continued a great year with a third place overall in the Over-65 category in 2:17:38.

Tim O’Neill had a good run in 1:33:37 and Michael Breen did as well in 1:36:49.

Brian Kearney, Pa Cronin, Diarmuid Sweeney, Lorcan Murphy, Aidan O’Brien, Pat Crean and Robert Doyle all had great runs.
