As the golfing season is beginning to wind down it is time to start thinking about 2018. Our lady Vice-Captain, Mary O’Shea, announced her Vice-Captain for next year who is Elizabeth Browne. We look forward to the season with Mary and Elizabeth and wish them luck as they guide us through the golfing year.

Congratulations to Nicky Murphy and Paul Cosgrave who beat Joe Delaney and Philip ‘Choc’ Browne in the final of the club fourball recently.

Nicky has now won this for the fourth time and it is Paul’s first year as a member, what a start! The winners were three under after five holes and turned it around to win on the 13th.

Nicky informs me that his first two victories were with Pat Goff in 2008 and 2009, and again in 2015 with Robert Byrne R.I.P.

The final of the singles is on next Sunday where Paul Connolly, Barton Cup manager, is waiting on the victor from the semi-final between Provincial Towns Challenge Cup and Barton Cup winner Shane Fortune and James Morrissey, another Barton Cup winner. The cream is really coming to the top.

Declan Byrne, Provincial Towns Challenge Cup winner, lost in the other semi. There is a story going around that he is now officially the fourth best golfer in the club and should have played his semi second!
