Best foot forward at ploughing
A MODEL cow from the Model County took centre stage at National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore showcasing a newly-designed bespoke foot bath.
Family-owned and run precast solution business Murphy Concrete Products Ltd. introduced four new products to their 2017 range displayed at the ploughing championships, among them the footbath with its model cow.
Ballindaggan-based Murphy Concrete, established in 2009, offers a full suite of precast concrete solutions.
The new Foot-bath is one of the solution-based products which this Irish business has designed and taken to market this year. Cows are walking more and further to paddocks, this can cause lameness. This can effect the milk yield of any one cow and therefore effect the bottom line for the farmers income.
By putting cows through a daily foot bath solution farmers can reduce infection where (Mortellaro) hoof infection has become very common within the herd. Cows don’t like stepping down, it makes them nervous and if they are nervous there is more dunging.
This is where a cow will not place the hoof fully into the solution, one of the reasons this can happen is when you have a plastic foot-bath they have a uneven surface and they can move from under the animal and can also make noise which makes the animal nervous.
The concrete Foot- bath removes this issue and proves a better option and solves a problem for smart farmers who value the well being of their livestock.
The second new product is Murphy’s Irish-designed tractor weight, which, has received a lot of interest nationwide. It is fully designed with a reinforced cage and manufactured high strength concrete in a compact design. It is the ideal and practical tractor attachment.
The third new precast product is the new Slurry Channel system. This product helps the farmer to eliminate mechanical manure handling, and reduces the need for agitation of slurry inside the farm building.
These systems are installed very easily and quickly, include excellent flow characteristics and present as a highly durable smooth finished product.
The fourth new product addition is the heel kerb for sand cublic bedding. This product is steel reinforced with a smooth round top edge and bolts down to passage way. It presents as a very simple polished and strong product.
