COLÁISTE BRÍDE TEACHER IS TOP OF THE CLASS!

-

THERE were celebrations at Coláiste Bríde recently as German teacher Maria Whitty scooped yet another major award. Ms Whitty was delighted to have been awarded the 2017 European Language Label for Language Teacher of the Year at a special ceremony in Farmleigh in Dublin.

The European Language Label is coordinated by the European Commission and in Ireland is managed by Léargas, a not-forprofit organisation wholly owned and operated by the Department of Education and Skills. This prestigious label recognises outstanding achievement in both the teaching and learning of languages and, in particular, recognises outstanding teachers who really foster a love of languages in their students. Ms Whitty was nominated by her peers and ticked all the boxes for the judges in terms of her enthusiasm and ability to inspire. The judges particularly picked up on her commitment to imaginative and high-quality language teaching and excellent knowledge of her subject.

This is not the first time that Ms Whitty has received a national award either. In November of last year she was named German Teacher of the Year at the German Teachers’ Association of Ireland National Conference at Trinity College in Dublin, having been selected by a judging panel made up from representatives of the association, the German Embassy and the Goethe Institute.

There were great celebrations as Ms Whitty returned to the school with the award and she looks forward to inspiring the next generation of students as the school welcomes potential first years with an information evening tomorrow ( Wednesday) night from 5 - 7 p.m.
