Abbey-Lee and Alan go through to national final
BUNCLODY Vocational College fifth year students Alan Carton and Abbey-Lee Roche have qualified for the national final of this year’s Engineering and Technology Teachers Association Young Technologist Competition.
ETTA is a voluntary administered association representing teachers of Engineering, Technology and Design and Communication Graphics. The aim of the association is to improve standards and performance within Technology Education.
Both Alan and Abbey-Lee beat of stiff competition from other schools in the recent Carlow, Wexford and Kilkenny regional final.
Alan’s unique design for a building site hoist, capable of raising building materials to the first floor level of a new structure, was the overall winner on the night where Abbey Lee’s design for a marionette, based on the theme ‘ The Wizard of Oz’, came in second place.
Having scooped the top two places in the regional final, in the higher level Junior Certificate Technology category, both students now qualify for this year’s final which is being held in Letterkenny Institute of Technology on November 18.
School principal James Murphy wished the two students well in the competition saying the school has a great track record in the competition and has won the national title on a number of occasions.
