CELEBRATING ACADEMIC SUCCESS!

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

THERE were nerves, anticipation and celebrations at Enniscorthy Vocational College recently as the school hosted its 2017 Academic Awards Day. The ceremony served as a great opportunity to acknowledge those students who had put considerable efforts into their studies over the past year and reaped the benefits of all this hard work.

Principal Dr Iain Wickham said that the results in the 2017 State Examinations were overwhelmingly positive and those who performed extremely well were honoured at the awards ceremony. Each student who gained the highest marks in higher level in each of the Junior Cert subjects offered in the school were individually recognised with an award and the highest achievements by students who followed the school’s Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP) were also presented with awards.

Dr Wickham addressed the students and congratulated them on their awards, encouraging them to keep up the hard work and continue their engagement with education into the future. His comments were echoed by new Deputy Principal/Year Head Ms Kenne- dy and New Era Co- Ordinator Ms Niamh Cullen Ivory.

The sense of pride and achievement was really palpable at the ceremony and the school was absolutely delighted to be able to celebrate such high standards with its students and no doubt there were quite a few proud parents in the wake of the ceremony too.

Meanwhile, the school also bid a fond ‘adios’ to its Spanish students who had spent five weeks at Enniscorthy Voca- tional College as part of an exchange programme. The staff said that it was a pleasure to host them in Enniscorthy and teach them a little bit about the local area. The Vocational College is hoping to continue to foster even stronger links with their European counterparts well into the future.
