SPORTS COMPLEX

Craanford-Monaseed Parish is privileged to have a wonderful Sports Complex which was built some years ago. Ownership is vested in Craanford Community Field Trust.

This Sports Complex provides a home for a broad variety of sports training and is available during daytime to the children of our parish school. However, up to now it has remained unfinished with dressing rooms and other facilities incomplete. Two public meetings were held in the summer to consider the situation and it was agreed to proceed with the necessary work.

A Building Committee (chairman – Ger Doran, secretary – James Doyle, treasurer – Patrick Lennon, Paddy Redmond, Martin Kavanagh, Thomas Kenny, Donal Kenny, and Mick Kelly) was established to oversee the work and a Fundraising Committee (chairperson – Patrick Lennon, secretary – Margaret Doyle, treasurers – Siobhán Whitty and Dermot Kenny, Ger Doran, Pádraig Donoghue, Sinéad Tobin, Joe Conroy, James Doyle, Caroline Kavanagh, and Brendan Tobin) was established to begin fundraising.

It was decided at the public meetings that the work to be carried out would not exceed a total budget of €200,000. Since grants of €30,000 from GAA Leinster Council and €35,000 from the Department of Sport are available it was decided to seek a loan of €100,000 from Craanford parish council.

A full complement of the parish council met of June 12, and unanimously agreed terms for such a loan as follows: the period of the loan was to be five years from the date of draw down, repayment was to be made in five €20,000 annual instalments, interest was to be charged at one percent, there would be no donations or writing off of any part of the loan.

Permission was sought from the Diocesan Authorities for approval of this extraordinary act of administration and was duly given. Following approval of the terms by Craanford Community Field Trust the money was drawn down on Friday, September 29.

Craanford Community Field is now progressing with the construction work on their Dressing Room Project. The parish council invites the support of the entire community for upcoming fundraising events which will repay the loan and fund the remainder of the project.
