STORM OPHELIA

Thankfully, despite its ferocity, storm Ophelia did no major damage in the Boolavogue area. Some trees were felled, including some to the front of Boolavogue National School. Power was lost on Monday, the day of the storm and only returned on Thursday evening just before 6 p.m.

COLÁISTE AN ÁTHA

Coláiste an Átha’s annual open evening will be held in Kilmuckrid­ge on Thursday, October 26, from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. All fifth and sixth class pupils from Boolavogue and their parents are invited to attend. Ms Martin, the principal will speak to the parents at 6 p.m. and again at 6.30 p.m. Further informatio­n is available on the school’s website at colaistean­atha.ie. The staff and pupils of the school would love to see you there on the night.

SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday, October 14, the under-12s were at home to Rosslare Strand and won by 1-0, collecting valuable league points. Evan Dunne was the man on target battering home a great score halfway through the first half. Mossy Walsh and Jack Turner starred in defence while up front, Abram O’Neill was unlucky not to score a second goal for the team after the break. This win means that the team have yet to be beaten in the league, winning three games and drawing one.

The ladies’ team were away to Shelburne on Sunday the 15th and lost by 1-3. Vivienne Gahan starred from the start to the final whistle while Nikita Buckley got the team’s only goal. The Men’s ‘A’ team were at home to Stoney Rovers and put on a great show for their supporters, winning by 9-0. Brendan Burke and James Sweeney both scored hat-tricks while Paul ‘ Roddy’ Doyle, Phil Donnelly and Mark Brady each scored a goal.

All schoolboy fixtures were cancelled on Saturday last, the 21st. due to storm Brian.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday night, October 28, Catherine Whelan is reading at the Vigil Mass with Gaye Gahan reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. Minister for the Eucharist at the Vigil Mass is Caroline Farrington with Kathleen Kehoe assisting at Communion on Sunday, October 29.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

The lotto draw due to be held on Tuesday, October 17, had to be postponed till Thursday the 19th as, due to storm Ophelia, the clubhouse was without power.
