Winterland festival set to be best ever

WEXFORD will be transforme­d into a winter wonderland next month with the launch of the Wexford Winterland Festival.

The festival which opens with the Winterland Parade through the town on Saturday, November 25, includes a new feature, Santa’s North Pole Experience, as well as firm favourites the Wexford People Wexford on Ice and the Christmas Express.

During the opening parade Santa Claus will light up the town by switching on the spectacula­r Christmas lights. The parade is funded by the Wexford Retail Group which is made up of local businesses.

The new addition to the festival, Santa’s North Pole Experience, runs from Sunday, November 26 until Saturday, December 23, It will see Wexford Quay being transforme­d into the North Pole where children can immerse themselves in the spirit of Christmas through an interactiv­e and theatrical experience. They will be able to wander through the Enchanted Forest, explore the North Pole Village and post letters to Santa in his post office.

Children will become hon- orary elves for the day helping Santa’s Chief elf prepare the toys in his workshop. Every child will receive a gift from Santa Claus and there will be plenty of photo opportunit­ies.

Tickets are €16 per child and €10 per adult. Online booking for Santa’s North Pole Experience opens on today (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. and tickets can also be purchased in the Lantern Presents Box Office, Main Street Wexford.

The immensely popular Wexford People Wexford on Ice opens on Friday, November 24, and runs until January 7. Enjoy skating under the stars with group rates, family tickets and sensory sessions available for all ages. Wexford On Ice is now taking bookings at wexfordoni­ce.com or at the Box Office.

The Christmas Express at the Bullring allows children to soak up the festive experience seeing the sights of Wexford while listening to special Christmas tales with Mrs. Claus and her elves. The 15 minute journey on the ornate Express will take in the magical lights and sounds of Wexford Town at Christmas The Christmas Express runs from November 26 to December 23.
