FANS OF SCI-FI, COMIC BOOKS AND GEEK CULTURE IN TOWN

-

THE Riverside Park Hotel was a real hive of activity at the weekend as fans of sci-fi, comic books and geek culture flooded into Enniscorthy from right across the South East for the first Cosmic Rebels Con.

An ambitious project on behalf of organisers Ed Doyle and Brian Thomas, the conference was a celebration of all things geeky that saw hundreds of people pack the Seamus Rafter Suite at the hotel over the two days. Perhaps among the most fascinating elements of the weekend’s festivities was the eye-catching attire of some of the exhibitors and attendees as they battled it out in the Cosplay competition and it appeared that there were superheroes and villains in attendance from every corner of the galaxy.

The weekend featured some fascinating talks with some eminent figures in the comic book world, artists and writers, along with a special screening of a new short movie Predator Celtic Days. There were also some eye-catching displays from the likes of the Star Wars 501st Legion, Ghostbusters Ireland and Super Smash Bros.

The organisers were blown away with the reaction that the weekend received from the general public and already plans are afoot for an even bigger and better event next year. They thanked everyone who contributed to the event’s success and those who turned out in their droves over the course of the two days.
