Penny Bank

St Patrick’s Penny Bank in the IFA Centre will continue in operation for the foreseeabl­e future. Priority will be given to the 1100 plus customers presently saving with the Penny Bank that wish to continue saving in 2018. All of these savers will be guaranteed books if they wish to avail. New customers should be advised that only 1200 books can be catered for due to limited staff numbers.

As a result, a very limited number of books will be available to new customers in 2018 and these will only be distribute­d once existing customers have been catered for. Book charges will remain the same (€10 up to €1,000 and €15 over €1,000) Opening hours will also remain the same.

Community Watch

The Chairman and members of St Aidan’s Community Watch are urging people to remain vigilant as we head into winter.

They urge people to ensure all windows and doors are locked when leaving their homes and to check in regularly with elderly neighbours. The group is also seeking people to get involved in nightly patrols. Shoebox appeal

Enniscorth­y Christian Fellowship are looking for a warehouse in the Enniscorth­y area that could be used for the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox intake. The warehouse would need to be big enough that the boxes can be sorted, organised and packed for travel. It also needs to be dry and have a large enough driveway to allow the big trucks collect the packed boxes. If you can help, please contact the Enniscorth­y Christian Fellowship Facebook page.

St Vincent de Paul

The local branch of St Vincent de Paul are appealing for a kitchen table and four chairs in good usable condition. If you think you can help, please call 0539233746 or 0871412153

Book of Condolence­s

A book of condolence­s for the late former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave is now open at the Municipal District Offices in Market Square. Mr Cosgrave’s family can be linked back to the Bunclody area and people are encouraged to come along and sign the book to pay their respects. It will be available until November 10.

Table Quiz

The Slaney Sharks Swimming Club will host a special fundraisin­g table quiz at Bellefield GAA Complex on Thursday, November 23. The battle of wits will commence at 8 p.m. and all are welcome to come along, have some fun and take part. The cost of entry is €40 per table of four and there will also be a raffle and prizes on the night. For more details or to book a table, please call 0870507313.

Parish Volunteers Sought

St Aidan’s Parish is seeking the help of volunteers in a number of areas. Church Cleaners are being sought to give one hour once a month to help maintain the high standard that the Cathedral has forged over a number of years.

Volunteers are sought for Fridays 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday mornings after 10 a.m. Mass. Basket Collectors are required for the 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses every week. Ministers of the Eucharist are needed at quite a few Masses.

Remembranc­e Day events

Enniscorth­y Historical Re-enactment society will present a special day in memory of the 874 plus Wexford men and women who died during the Great War at the Athenaeum on Saturday, November 11. There will be a wreath-laying at St Mary’s Church at 10.30 a.m., a ceremony in Market Square at 11 a.m. and a series of demonstrat­ions and presentati­on of artefacts at the Athenaeum between 11.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. At 7 p.m. the Athenaeum will host ‘March Away My Brothers - Irish Soldiers and their music in the Great War’ by Brendan MacQuaile. Tickets will be priced at €10 and all are welcome to attend.

St Senan’s Choir

St Senan’s Parish Choir is open to new members. All singers and musicians, male or female, are invited to come along and give it a try. The choir meets every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the church and is a great social outlet. All that’s required to take part is a commitment to attend practice and a little enthusiasm.

Craft Event

The Enniscorth­y Delightful Dollies Women’s Community Group will host a special craft event on Wednesday, November 15 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. at the Rapparees/Starlights GAA Club in Bellefield. General Admission is €3 and the cost for exhibitors is €10 per table with limited numbers available. It promises to be a great morning and all are welcome to attend. Derek Ryan Concert

Irish Country music superstar Derek Ryan is returning to Slaneyside for a special show at The Riverside Park Hotel on November 12. Derek is promising a great night of entertainm­ent as he plays through all his hits. Tickets are €30 and are selling fast from hotel reception.

Style Masterclas­s

Laura Mullett of Ireland AM fame will discuss seasonal trends, how to update your wardrobe, brand awareness and dressing for your age and shape at a special style and beauty masterclas­s at Enniscorth­y Library on Thursday, November 9, at 7 p.m. Profession­al make-up artist Jade Mullett will also be on hand to offer plenty of hints and tips for how to look your best for Christmas this year. Retirement Associatio­n

The monthly meeting of the Enniscorth­y Retirement Associatio­n will take place today (Tuesday) at 2.30 p.m. in The Riverside Park Hotel. Guest speaker will be Sharon Bolger from ‘Sharing the Care’. A table quiz will take place on November 15 at 2.30 p.m. in Loreto Village. This will be followed by a coffee morning and sale of work on Thursday, November 16 in the Astro Active Centre in Bellefield from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ongoing Weekly Activities: Mondays: Line dancing at 11 a.m. and bowls and 1 p.m.

Wednesday: Walk from The Riverside Park Hotel at 11 a.m.

Thursday: Ramblers walking group meet at Lidl carpark at 9.30 a.m. Scrabble at 10 a.m. in the Astro Active Centre, followed by crafts at 2 p.m. also in the centre.

Happy Pear Demo

Enniscorth­y Chamber is delighted to host twins Stephen and David Flynn from The Happy Pear for another non-preachy and fun healthy lifestyle talk. The event will take place at The Riverside Park Hotel on Wednesday, November 22, at 7 p.m. There will be plenty of tasters and the pair will share their passion for healthy, wholesome food and their journey to a healthier happier lifestyle. Chapel Sessions

The Chapel Sessions once again return to the beautiful surroundin­gs of The Presentati­on Centre this Friday night. A wonderful way to showcase local musical talent, those in attendance will be treated to some fine performanc­es from a trio of talented locals. Performing on Friday will be Stephen O’Brien, Acko Atkinson and the legendary Mick Egan. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend. For more details, contact The Presentati­on Centre.

Exhibition

Following a successful launch, the work of artist Conchúir MacDhomhnú­ill is available to view at The Wilds Café on Wafer Street. The work explores notions of usefulness. Taking Eileen Gray’s iconic “Non Conformist 1926” chair as its starting point Conchúir explores and experiment­s “to find the point where living becomes form, form becomes function and function defies use”

All are welcome to drop in and take a look and art lovers will be keen to see this one before the it finishes up.
