Yvonne scoops major audiologist award
AN Enniscorthy woman has become the first woman ever to be named Irish Audiologist of the Year. A native of Enniscorthy, Yvonne Doyle lived in Galway for years before moving back to town to take over the Waterford Branch of Hidden Hearing. She faced stiff competition from all over the country for the award and was over the moon to have been picked by the judges, as well as the distinction of being the first female winner.
The annual competition is organised by leading hearing aid battery manufacturer Rayovac, a division of Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc. and saw a panel of independent hearing care professionals come together over the summer to judge the high volume of Irish entries and take on the difficult task of crowning a winner.
A daughter of the late Paddy ‘Pro’ Doyle, Yvonne became interested in audiology after her grandmother and her father suffered some hearing loss. She was absolutely over the moon to have been selected by the judges as a worthy winner, having been nominated by one of her clients Robin.
‘It came as a lovely surprise and I felt very privileged, if a little overwhelmed,’ she said. ‘I was also pleasantly surprised to find out I was the first Irish woman to be awarded the title! I take the responsibilities of my job very seriously and I am very grateful to get the recognition for the effort I put into my work every day. When I read Robin’s nomination, it really brought home the importance of what I do every day and the difference our work as Audiologists can have on a client’s life.’
Having scooped the Irish Award, Yvonne will now go on to represent Ireland in a European competition and will be carrying with her the best wishes of everyone from her hometown and her clients in Waterford.
