AIB Cycle

AIB Bank are hosting a special charity cycle on exercise bikes at their branch in Slaney Place this Friday, November 17. Throughout the day, cyclists will take half an hour shifts in the hopes of raising a significan­t amount of money for St Patrick’s Special School. The event has the full support of all the businesses of Slaney Place, including The Enniscorth­y Guardian and a bucket collection will take place on the day with all donations, big or small, gratefully received.

Physics Workshop

A physics workshop will take place suitable for adults and children alike in Enniscorth­y Library on Thursday night, November 16, at 7 p.m. The talk will be given by Brendan Wallace, consultant engineer and maths and physics teacher. It will focus on such things as a Particle Detector which allows people to see things normally restricted to large research facilities. This is a free event. Christmas Flower demo

Co Wexford Garden & Flower Club are hosting a special Gala Christmas Flower Demonstrat­ion tomorrow (Wednesday) night in The Riverside Park Hotel. Things will get underway from 8 p.m. and there will be plenty of hints and tips from Joan Lockhart, President of NIGFAS. All are very welcome to attend.

Community Watch

The Chairman and members of St Aidan’s Community Watch are urging people to remain vigilant as we head into winter. They urge people to ensure all windows and doors are locked when leaving their homes and to check in regularly with elderly neighbours. The group is also seeking people to get involved in nightly patrols. Shoebox appeal

The annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal has began and organisers are very grateful to Celtic Linen Ltd in Wexford for allowing them to use part of their premises as their checking centre this year. Any volunteers who can lend a hand helping with checking shoe-boxes will be made very welcome. Even if you can only give a few hours, every little helps. Christmas Market

The FDYS is hosting a special Christmas Market at their premises on Island Road on Friday and Saturday December 8 and 9. The market will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day and will feature all manner of craft stalls, a santa’s grotto, arts and crafts, Christmas cookery demos, Christmas carols and lots more. All money raised will go towards the redecorati­on and restoratio­n of the FDYS building and all support is greatly appreciate­d. TableQuiz

The Slaney Sharks Swimming Club will host a special fundraisin­g table quiz at Bellefield GAA Complex on Thursday, November 23. The battle of wits will commence at 8 p.m. and all are welcome to come along, have some fun and take part. The cost of entry is €40 per table of four and there will also be a raffle and prizes on the night. For more details or to book a table, please call 0870507313.

Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club will host a table quiz on Friday, November 17 at the farm centre in Enniscorth­y. The battle of wits will commence at 8 p.m. with the cost of entry at €40 for a table of four. There will also be a draw for spot prizes and all are welcome to attend.

Christmas Fast

It’s that time of year again and preparatio­ns are well under way for the annual Christmas Fast in aid of Concern. The Chamber of Commerce Concern Support Group have arranged a 24 hour fast for the last 19 years and this year they are very mindful of the large scale damage from storms and famine in Africa.

The planned fast is for any 24 hours between Saturday 25th November and finishing at 12 noon on Sunday 26th November. People can complete the fast at anytime in the coming weeks. Should anyone wish to carry an appeal box in their business premises or take part in the fast, please contact Eugene Doyle on 053 9235287.

StSenan’s Choir

St Senan’s Parish Choir is open to new members. All singers and musicians, male or female, are invited to come along and give it a try. The choir meets every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the church and is a great social outlet. All that’s required to take part is a commitment to attend practice and a little enthusiasm.

CraftEvent

The Enniscorth­y Delightful Dollies Women’s Community Group will host a special craft event tomorrow, November 15 from 9.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. at the Rapparees/Starlights GAA Club in Bellefield.

General Admission is €3 and the cost for exhibitors is €10 per table with limited numbers available. It promises to be a great morning and all are welcome to attend. Defibrilla­tor Check

If there’s a defibrilla­tor in your parish, you can take advantage of a free check to make sure that everything is in good working order. The Irish Red Cross are running a scheme, with funding provided by the Ger Devereux Memorial Walk, to ensure that all defibrilla­tors in Enniscorth­y and surroundin­g areas are maintained and in good working condition.

Thank You

Enniscorth­y Tidy Towns wish to thank everyone who contribute­d to their recent church gate collection which raised a grand total of €690. All support is greatly appreciate­d.

Penny Bank

St Patrick’s Penny Bank in the IFA Centre will continue in operation for the foreseeabl­e future. Priority will be given to the 1100 plus customers presently saving with the Penny Bank that wish to continue saving in 2018. All of these savers will be guaranteed books if they wish to avail. New customers should be advised that only 1200 books can be catered for due to limited staff numbers.

As a result, a very limited number of books will be available to new customers for 2018 and these will only be distribute­d once existing customers have been catered for. Book charges will remain the same (€10 up to €1,000 and €15 over €1,000). Opening hours will also remain the same.

Retirement Associatio­n

A table quiz will take place tomorrow, November 15 at 2.30 p.m. in Loreto Village. This will be followed by a coffee morning and sale of work on Thursday, November 16 in the Astro Active Centre in Bellefield from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ongoing Weekly Activities: Mondays: Line dancing at 11 a.m. and bowls and 1 p.m.

Wednesday: Walk from The Riverside Park Hotel at 11 a.m.

Thursday: Ramblers walking group meet at Lidl carpark at 9.30 a.m. Scrabble at 10 a.m. in the Astro Active Centre, followed by crafts at 2 p.m. also in the centre.

Christmas Bazaar

Enniscorth­y Monart Union will host a special Christmas Bazaar in the Church Institute on Saturday, November 25 from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Among the attraction­s will be a bottle stall, country produce, bric-a-brac, books and toys, a cake stall, lucky dip envelope and much more.

There will also be a raffle for a Christmas cake and a Christmas hamper and a butter making demonstrat­ion and display. It promises to be a great day out for all the family and all are welcome to attend.

Coffee Morning

A coffee morning in aid of MS Ireland will take place at The Presentati­on Centre on Friday, November 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All support is greatly appreciate­d and a raffle will also be held on the morning with some great prizes up for grabs.
