Night of entertainment at Gospel Choir concert

- With Maria Nolan

ENNISCORTHY Gospel Choir under chairperson Áine Doyle and musical director Joanne McCabe provided wonderful entertainment on Friday night last at the Presentation Art Centre at their annual Christmas concert.

With oodles of energy and passion expertly guided by the vivacious Joanne they gave rousing performances of some classic Gospel numbers like Oh Happy Day, Higher and Higher, Down By the River, I Will Follow Him, Joyful, Joyful, Something Inside So Strong, and Walk In Jerusalem.

The young and talented Conor Kenny treated the Presentation audience to old favourites like Boolavogue and Danny Boy on the tin whistle and trad trio Frances McCabe, Anne Dempsey and Martin Ryan performed a couple of beautiful pieces including Nedin, Dragonfly, Sweet Sixteen and Lighthouse Light, with guitar, tin whistle and mouth organ as well as vocals.

But the stars of the show were most certainly the children of the St Aidan’s Choir, under musical director Kerri Clifford, who stole the hearts of all in attendance with strong, gusty and extremely well delivered performances of the Greatest, Halleulia and Nearly Christmas.

There was a final treat as musical director Joanne McCabe joined the Gospel Choir on stage to finish the night with a most spectacular rendition of the seasonal and poignant O Holy Night.

A festive evening of variety, talent and soul.
