Wexford will be well represented at All-Ireland event
WATERFORD hosts National Novice and Juvenile Cross
Country - The Irish Life Health All Ireland Juvenile (uneven ages) & Novice Cross Country Championships take place at WIT, Waterford on Sunday next, December 17.
Co. Wexford will be well represented in the underage races, the athletes having qualified at November’s Leinster Juvenile Championships in Adamstown.
Éabha Keane (DMP) and Ronan Shannon (USAC) compete in the under-11 races.
Sinéad O’Reilly (Menapians), sixth in the Leinster under-13 race, will be hoping for another top 10 finish.
In the boys under-13 race, Myles Hewlett (USAC) has been having a powerful season with a second place finish in the Leinster under-13 race and 12th in the under-14 Nationals.
In the latter race he led Striders to a team gold and Co. Wexford to silver.
Myles has a good competitive head and he knows how to use it. Definitely one to watch next weekend.
His brother Cosmo, also under-14, is a gutsy runner and is likely to place very strongly.
Their clubmates Eoin Shannon and Finbarr Kelly will not be too far off the pace.
DMP’s Claragh Keane runs the under-14 race having qualified in fifth place at the Leinsters. Conditions are likely to be sticky and this should suit her.
They will also suit SBR’s Joe Byrne in the boys under-14 race. Joe was a fast finishing second in the Leinsters. He will be there or thereabouts.
Aidan Shannon (USAC) also runs under-14. His form has been a little up and down of late. On his day he is lethal.
Moving up to undser19, Aedan Rogers (USAC), who was fifth at Leinster level, will be hoping to mix it up front.
He has the training behind him so he can approach the race with a good degree of confidence.
He already has a Leinster team gold from the under-18 Nationals. Liam Turner (DMP) also runs under-19.
He ran away with the recent County Schools Cross Country. If he shows the same form anything is possible.
The programme commences with the girls under-11 race at 11.30am and finishes with the Ladies Novice (2.40pm) and Men’s Novice (3.10pm).
All-Ireland Gold for Aedan
One late medal-winning result from November’s All-Ireland Cross Country Championships in Abbot- stown made one United Striders athlete very happy.
Aedan Rogers, who placed 27th in the under-18 race, was fifth man home on the winning Leinster team.
That really does crown a great National Championships for Striders.
Intermediate Postponed
The Mr Oil Wexford County Intermediate Cross Country Cham- pionships, scheduled to take place in Lingstown last Sunday was postponed due to the weather conditions. New date TBC.
Leinster
The Slaney Olympic duo of Ger Forde and Enda Cloake run the Novice Men’s Race. Ger ran very well to place seventh in the Leinster Senior Cross Country. The same kind of form could see him getting among the medals.
