WE X FORD KETTLE BELL ENNIS COR THY HOCKEY

-

The cold snap lead to the cancellation of many sporting fixtures throughout the county, and hockey was no exception as the two adult first teams had their matches at the Astro Active Centre postponed on Saturday.

The ladies first 11 were due to host Genesis in the Division 7/8 Cup, while their male counterparts were to host Corinthians III in Division 4.

It wasn’t all bad news for the men, though, as following an appeal regarding the eligibility of a Pembroke Wanderers player who took part in the league encounter on November 25, all three points were awarded to the Wexford side.

This result leaves Enniscorthy three points clear at the summit of Division 4, three points ahead of Pembroke.

The only adult fixture to survive the weather was the Division 7 derby game between the men’s second 11 and Wicklow III on Saturday.

Goals from Mick Jordan, Robbie Walshe and Niall Maguire gave the cathedral town side a commanding 3-0 half time lead, and the visitors piled on the agony at East Glendalough School in the second half, as goals from Rory Maguire and a brace from Daithí Medcalf gave Enniscorthy a 6-0 away win and second place in Division 7.

Squad: Luke Doyle, Daithí Medcalf, Rory Maguire, Mick Jordan, Niall Maguire, Robbie Walshe, Graeme Chapman, Alan Smith, Clive Rothwell, Jason Rothwell, Shay O’Leary, Eamonn Sweeney, Nigel Bailey, David Mulligan, Eric Hendy, Roy Chapman

The under-16 girls got their Jacqui Potter Cup Plate campaign off to a resounding start on Sunday against Clontarf, emerging 6-0 winners.

A brace each from H Sweeney and E Doyle along with one from N Ogilvie and an OG means a local derby in the next round as Enniscorthy take on Wexford in late January.
