St Michael’s Theatre, New Ross, 3 p.m. Christmas classic, The Muppet’s Christmas Carol, will be shown for free, courtesy of Wexford County Council, at the theatre.

CHRISTMAS TRACTOR LIGHT SHOW

New Ross, 5 p.m. The stunning sight of eight tractors decorated with thousands of colourful, flashing Christmas lights, being driven through the town has to be seen to be believed. The jolly convoy travels from Irishtown down along Nunnery Lane, the Three Bullet Gate, down Michael Street, Sugar House Lane and onto the quay, crossing O’Hanrahan Bridge and travelling up Rosbercon as far as the mart, before stopping outside the Dunbrody Visitor Centre, where music will be played.

CHRISTMAS STORIES, CRAFTS AND MOVIE

New Ross Library, 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. New Ross Library is having a special Christmass­y day. Kicking the festive fun off will be Susan’s Christmas story-time, with some fantastic festive fun and games. Children can expect to lay their eyes on an extra special visitor too! A Christmas themed children’s craft workshop takes place at 2 p.m. Whether it snows or not this Christmas, you can still make your very own snowman. This workshop is suitable for children aged 5-8 years old.

At 4 p.m. a surprise Christmas movie will bring the festive day to a close. EXHIBITION: FRIENDS IN TIMES OF TROUBLE – THE LIFE OF WACLAW DOBRZYNSKI

Wexford Library, 10:30 a.m. Waclaw Dobrzynski arrived in the newly independen­t Free State in 1929 as the representa­tive of an also newly independen­t Poland and spent almost all of the rest of his life here, representi­ng a Polish government in exile in the post war period. He died in 1962 and is buried in Greystones.

CHRISTMAS DAY SWIM Rosslare Beach, 12 p.m. This event is one of Rosslare’s biggest social occasions, generally wecloming in excess of 1,000 people to the beach. The swim begins at 12 noon, with carol singing beforehand starting at 11.30 at the Christmas Tree. There will be a bucket collection for St. Mary’s Daycare Centre while plenty of swimmers seek sponsorshi­p for various other causes. There will be mulled wine, soup and refreshmen­ts after the swim and it is hoped that the event will be streamed live on Facebook.

FESTIVE 5KM WALK Pink Rock, 12 noon The annual turkey burner St Stephen’s Day Festive 5k fun walk and run kicks off 12 noon at the Pink Rock, Glenmore. People can bring the dog, buggy, Granny, Grandad, even the new bike Santa brought to the Pink Rock, to walk or run off all the Christmas dinner and plum pudding. Donations will be taken on the day. Fancy dress is optional and there is a prize for best sostume for children, adults and the best dressed dog. ST STEPHEN’S DAY SWIM Slade Harbour, 11 a.m. Hook Sub Aqua Club has organised a brrrillian­t post-Christmas swim to help shed some of the extra pounds gained, on St Stephen’s Day morning at 11 a.m. Everyone is welomce to come along. The annual Rosslare Horse Shoe Throwing Championsh­ips takes place on St Stephen’s Day. GOAL MILE Wexford Quayfront, 11 a.m. One of the country’s most popular annual events, the GOAL Mile has become an integral part of Christmas for thousands of families. It sees thousands of people run, jog or walk a mile, raising money and awareness of GOAL’s programmes in the developing world.

SUNRISE TOUR Hook Lighthouse The world’s oldest intact working lighthouse will host its first Sunrise Tour Experience on January 1 offering visitors the opportunit­y to see the New Year dawning over the spectacula­r south east coast.
