A bumper read in the Bree Parish Journal
ALWAYS one to look forward to for anyone with a Bree connection or those with an interest in local history, the 18th Bree Parish Journal received its official launch recently. This year’s edition contains plenty of historical items, as well as giving an insight into parish activities over the past couple of years.
The bulk of the journal’s 120 pages contain record of organisations, clubs and sporting events covering the past two years featuring world, national and county champions.
Two local shops were closed in the parish of Bree during the past two years and this inspired Clare Doyle to write about some shops from the parish that are well missed. Many of these establishments provided essential supplies to local communities but more importantly they were the real ‘ hub’ in each locality. Regular contributor Dan Walsh provides snippets of local history on fifteen of the thirty-one townslands of the parish.
Seamus Moriarty, another regular contributor, has taken a look at items on Bree from online newspaper archives, while the journal also contains a special tribute to Clonroche historian and former contributor Tom McDonald who passed away earlier this year.
Copies are available for €8 in local shops in Bree, Oylegate, Clonroche and Killurin as well as Enniscorthy and Wexford.
