OPERATION TRANSFORMA­TION

Half-Way-House Bunclody GAA Club in conjunctio­n with RTÉ’s Operation Transforma­tion National Walk Day and Wexford County Council will hold a 5k walk at Half-Way-House Bunclody GAA Club Walking Track on Saturday, January 13, at 11 a.m.

This is a fully accessible walking area and has recently made use of a REDZ grant from Bunclody Town Team to install lighting around the track. All are welcome to come along on the 13th to try it out. For informatio­n contact James Doyle, club secretary or Barbara-Anne Murphy.

SPEECH AND DRAMA

Speech and Drama classes resume on Monday, January 8, in Kilmyshall NS and Wednesday, January 10, in Our Lady of Lourdes NS Bunclody for both Primary and Secondary school students.

These classes are not only fun but are also a great way to improve confidence, creativity and communicat­ion skills which will benefit children all through their lives.

During the year students will prepare for festivals and Speech and Drama Exams (with the Irish Board of Speech and Drama) as well as play drama games, work on speech and vocal projection, poetry, improvisat­ion, monologues, public speaking, mime and so much more, while above all making sure to have lots of fun. New members are very welcome.

THE MONDAY CLUB

The Monday Club meets at St Mary’s Centre, Ryland Road, Bunclody on Mondays. Come and join us and brighten up your Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Throughout the year there will be informatio­n sharing, entertainm­ent, arts and crafts, guest speakers and many more topics. Perhaps as a New Year’s Resolution you can pay a visit to the Monday Club and see what happens there and who you might catch up with.

Monday, January 15: Introducti­on to mindfulnes­s with Jackie Byrne.

Monday the 22th: Modern Technology with the local Transition Year Students from the FCJ Learn how to take a selfie, learn how to text and so on.

Monday the 29th: Social Gathering, Darts Competitio­n, bingo and lots more.

Entrance Fee is €4 which includes tea or coffee and Light Lunch. This Club will suit the 60+ age group. Transport not provided.

JANUARY IN BUNCLODY LIBRARY

Running from January 1-31 is an Exhibition of Paintings by Martin Kirwan. Martin is a local artist based in Enniscorth­y and this exhibition will feature paintings of the Bunclody and Enniscorth­y area.

On Thursday January 11 at 7 p.m. there will be a WSPCA talk with Cabrini Desmond.

Cabrini works as an inspector with WSPCA and will talk on the work of the society, how they fundraise and how you can help their work in the prevention of cruelty to animals in your county.

On Friday, January 12, at 4.15 p.m. there will be a Board Games Workshop with Manuel Gardenes. Manuel, who has run the Children Chess Club here for the past two summers, will give a talk on the different board games available for children.

On Saturday January 13 at 2.30 p.m. there will be a Movie for adults – contact the library for details.

On Thursday January 18 at 7 p.m. there is ‘An illustrate­d lecture – Bunclody, Clonegal, Clohamon and Kilmyshall in historical context’ with Kevin Whelan. Kevin is a native of Johnstown, County Wexford, attended Clonegal NS and FCJ Buncody and his grandfathe­r Park O’Reilly was a cooper in Bunclody.

He has authored or edited over 20 books and more than 100 articles, lectured on Irish topics in 14 countries, and researched the history of his native county for over three decades. Kevin is Director of the university of Notre Dame Centre on Merion Square in Dublin. Booking essential.

On Saturday, January 20, at 2.30 p.m. it’s Yoga for kids with Sunshine Yoga. All the amazing benefits of yoga are perfect for our children. Yoga for kids takes a child friendly approach to teaching and preparing for postures, pranayama, mindfulnes­s, meditation and relaxation. Suitable for six- to 12-year-olds.

On Thursday January 25 at 7 p.m. it’s the Folklore History of Bunclody with Michael Fortune. Michael will talk about the cultural heritage of Bunclody, in the areas of folklore, story and song. He will explain his passion for the collection of material, both historical and contempora­ry and the people he meets on the way. He is a native of the Macamores and his photograph­ic exhibition, titled ‘ The Wexford Dresser Project’ is currently running at Wexford Library.

On Saturday, January 27, Bunclody Library will host a Genealogy Clinic with Celestine Murphy – Come and meet Celestine by appointmen­t here at the library for a one-to-one session to reveal your family tree secrets.

PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP

Bunclody Parent and Toddler Group meets on Wednesdays From 10 a.m. to midday in the Millrace Hotel, Admission €3. This is a great place to meet other parents in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Please note change of venue.

WHIST

Whist is on Monday evenings in Bunclody Day Care Centre, Ryland Road. First deal 8.45 p.m.

BINGO

River’s Edge, Bunclody hosts bingo every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Each month a €200 donation from the proceeds is made to a local charity. So if you enjoy a good night out, make your way to River’s Edge on any or every Wednesday evening.

SLANEY VALLEY COMMUNITY GAMES

Slaney Valley Community Games are holding an informatio­n evening on Sunday, January 14, in Spellman Park, Kildavin from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Please come along, as it will be a great opportunit­y to find out more about the varied activities that are part of Community Games. There really is something for everyone with lots of sporting events and plenty of other events such as art, handwritin­g, make and model, chess, talent and many more. Community Games has activities for children of all ages.

Some Club members who have competed at county and national level will be there to give you more informatio­n on the 14th.
