Ambitious plan is unveiled for Templeshannon
WEXFORD County Council has unveiled ambitious regeneration plans for Templeshannon in Enniscorthy, including the building of a footbridge from the bottom of Slaney Street across to Templeshannon.
The Templeshannon Regeneration Strategy proposes to regenerate the area by tackling issues such as poor pedestrian environment, traffic congestion and dereliction. It also proposes to encourage private investment and development in Templeshannon.
The strategy includes a number of infrastructural projects:
Implementation of the Flood Defence Scheme and associated Traffic Management Plan, including a proposal in the traffic plan to make Templeshannon one-way from the Shannon to the Old Bridge.
Improvement of the public realm and streetscape of the Templeshannon area including the widening of paths, enhanced public lighting, undergrounding of services, paving etc.
Improving accessibility and links from the Templeshannon area to the rest of Enniscorthy, including provision of a pedestrian bridge from Slaney Street to Templeshannon.
The progressive transformation of the Waterfront Leisure Centre private car park to create a new civic space and a public car park.
Improvement of the Enniscorthy Railway Station arrival area with emphasis on its connection to Templeshannon and the rest of Enniscorthy.
The preparation of designs for the streetscape works and the pedestrian bridge will commence in the coming months.
