Ambitious plan is unveiled for Templeshan­non

WEXFORD County Council has unveiled ambitious regenerati­on plans for Templeshan­non in Enniscorth­y, including the building of a footbridge from the bottom of Slaney Street across to Templeshan­non.

The Templeshan­non Regenerati­on Strategy proposes to regenerate the area by tackling issues such as poor pedestrian environmen­t, traffic congestion and derelictio­n. It also proposes to encourage private investment and developmen­t in Templeshan­non.

The strategy includes a number of infrastruc­tural projects:

Implementa­tion of the Flood Defence Scheme and associated Traffic Management Plan, including a proposal in the traffic plan to make Templeshan­non one-way from the Shannon to the Old Bridge.

Improvemen­t of the public realm and streetscap­e of the Templeshan­non area including the widening of paths, enhanced public lighting, undergroun­ding of services, paving etc.

Improving accessibil­ity and links from the Templeshan­non area to the rest of Enniscorth­y, including provision of a pedestrian bridge from Slaney Street to Templeshan­non.

The progressiv­e transforma­tion of the Waterfront Leisure Centre private car park to create a new civic space and a public car park.

Improvemen­t of the Enniscorth­y Railway Station arrival area with emphasis on its connection to Templeshan­non and the rest of Enniscorth­y.

The preparatio­n of designs for the streetscap­e works and the pedestrian bridge will commence in the coming months.
