Drama group is hoping the ‘Queen’ will capture hearts!

-

ENNISCORTHY Drama Group are getting set for a busy period as they put their latest production through its paces ahead of hitting the All Ireland Drama circuit. ‘ The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ is the piece of work that the group has chosen for this year’s competition and the cast and crew can’t wait to sink their teeth into the material.

Written by Golden Globe winner Martin McDonagh, the play is set in the mountains of Connemara and tells the story of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early 40s, and Mag, her manipulative, aging mother. Mag’s interference in Maureen’s first and potentially last romantic relationship sets in motion a chain of events that are as tragically funny as they are horrific.

The production will be under the direc- tion of Tom Reddy and features a stellar cast of Anne-Marie Whelan, Michelle Whelan, Brendan Robinson and Fintan Kelly.

The group will first take the play south to the glamorous surroundings of The National Opera House on February 3, before returning to the Enniscorthy for three home shows in The Presentation Centre on February 15, 16 and 17. Tickets are now on sale for the Wexford show from The National Opera House website and more information on all shows can be found on the Enniscorthy Drama Group Facebook page. This will represent the group’s last time treading the boards before heading out on the circuit so all support and feedback is greatly appreciated!
