ADDRESS ROSSLARE DERELICTION – PLEA

-

CLLR Ger Carthy said an action plan is needed for Rosslare Europort, where dereliction is becoming a major problem.

Cllr Carthy said he met with CEO Tom Enright in the village over two years ago. ‘We discussed various problems and issues regarding vacancies and dereliction. We received money for a health check and today we are no further along the road.’

He called on the council to immediately take Rosslare Harbour and Kilrane uner the special project scheme.

‘We are putting rates on vacant properties. I think it’s an indictment if we don’t do something on this. Yes the Great Southern was fenced off but the people of Rosslare Harbour are in going to tolerate this carry on.’

Director of Services for Economic Development Tony Larkin said: ‘It’s a Borough matter.’

‘ The director is out of order,’ Cllr Carthy replied, saying councillors are elected to discuss matters across the county, not at secret meetings.

‘You are saying you have had a discussion with the mayor in relation to this.’

He said no date was advanced for a consultation process in the area.

‘I get fobbed off every time I mention it,’ Cllr Carthy said, calling for an updated report for next month’s meeting.

CEO Tom Enright said the report will be provided for next month’s borough council meeting.
