‘Memory boxes’ presented
A BATCH of memory boxes, provided by Enniscorthy-based group Beneath My Angel’s Wings, were presented to maternity staff at Wexford General Hospital recently.
The charity, which has been in existence since 2013, was set up to provide assistance to families who had lost children at a young age. Chairman of the organisation, Cllr John O’Rourke said that while there are national organisations, it was felt that something was needed locally.
He explained that the memory boxes came about as a result of public support: ‘We had the idea of the memory boxes and I put a call out through social media to see if people would knit bed clothes or baby clothes for the boxes. The response was phenomenal and the amount of people who came forward with items was fantastic.’
They then enlisted the help of Hogan Print to brand the boxes with the Beneath My Angel’s Wings logo, which was designed by Enniscorthy man Dean O’Connor, and put the boxes together for presentation to the hospital, who would then make them available to affected families.
‘ The idea is that people would have these boxes as a memory.’ said Cllr O’Rourke, adding that the group was indebted to the people of Wexford who had supported them in all of their endeavours including the Angel Memorial Garden in St Mary’s Cemetery, Enniscorthy.
