Wexford’s lucky 46 shared €70 million
WE’RE 12TH IN THE COUNTRY FOR LOTTO WINS
FORTY-SIX people’s lives in County Wexford have been transformed by the Lotto since it started 20 years ago, collectively winning almost €70 million.
The figures emerged as the National Lottery marked its 3,000th Lotto draw.
Most recently, Wexford-born professional football Kevin O’Connor won €1 million in the National Lottery’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle on New Year’s Eve, the ticket bought at Flanagan’s Centra in Castlebridge and there was a €250,000 win for the owner of a Lotto Plus 2 draw ticket bought at Wallace’s Costcutter in Wellingtonbridge, the second such win for the same family.
And Bunclody engineer Philip Kavanagh won €500,000 on a EuroMillions Plus draw.
The National Lottery said it paid out 4.4 billion in prizes since first draw in 1988, with the Lotto Game generating €2.9 billion for Good Causes all over Ireland.
Since the very first Lotto draw on Saturday, April 16, 1988, there have been an astonishing 1,738 Lotto jackpot wins, with 745 jackpot prizes exceeding €1 million.
With 46 jackpot winners since 1988, County Wexford ranks 12th in the league table of counties with the most Lotto wins. Not surprisingly, Dublin tops the table with 572 winners.
The 46 Wexford winners collected a total of €69,095,654 in prizemoney.
