Busy year recalled at the Red Cross AGM

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

THERE were plenty of reflections on what had been a busy year as the Enniscorthy Branch of the Irish Red Cross gathered for its AGM at St John’s Day Care Centre. Unit Officer Catriona Whelan thanked members for their hard work and support throughout 2017 having covered the likes of point to points, sporting events, the St Patrick’s Day Parade, the Hope & Dream 10 and various events at St Aidan’s Cathedral.

As well as these duties, courses were also given in practical first aid and paediatrics along with cardiac first responders courses. While the branch has seen some growth this year, with some new members coming on board, the crew are keen to welcome more new members into the fold in the coming year.

Area Director of Units Paddy Redmond provided some good news, announcing that the branch would be updating their ambulance in March of this year. He also praised the Ger Devereux Walk which raised a total of €7,500, the proceeds of which went to the heart foundation and the purchase of three defibrillators which are located in the Milehouse area, the Still and Maxol in Bellefield. A free defibrillator check service is still available around the county, and those looking for more information can contact Paddy Redmond on 0876843637.

Finally the branch extended a big thank you to St John’s for the use of their premises during the year and also to the general public for all their support, before the election of officers. Olive Lett was elected Chairperson with Karen Sullivan as Vice Chair. Treasurer for the coming year will be Paul O’Meara, while Paddy Redmond will serve as Secretary and Sally Flynn as PRO.

Making up the committee will be Luke Doyle, Katie Carolan, Mary Murnane, Shane Roche, Catriona Whelan and Gerry Page, while the area representatives will be Shane Roche and Catriona Whelan.
