A brilliant battle of the brains at Credit Union Quiz
SOME of the brightest young minds the area has to offer gathered at Coláiste Bríde for a battle of wits recently as the Credit Union hosted their 2018 Schools Quiz. Always a favourite event on the calendar for students and teachers alike, the Credit Union quiz has been going for over 25 years.
This year’s Enniscorthy event saw a huge entry of 26 schools and 51 teams, all of whom were welcomed along with parents and teachers by Chairman of Enniscorthy Credit Union Pat O’Shea. As a little thank you, there was a raffle for five prizes of €50 for the parents and teachers in attendance at the quiz. Pat also thanked the volunteers who worked hard correcting answers, keeping scores and as quiz assistants collecting answer sheets, as well as Pat Jordan of Coláiste Bríde for all his help.
Liam Waters was quizmaster on the day and oversaw both quizzes - one for under 11s and one for under 13s, with both the winners and runners-up in each quiz going forward to the next level of the quiz - Chapter Level - in early March. From there, it’s onto the National Final in Dublin on April 8. Enniscorthy Credit Union had a national winner in the Under 11 quiz last year in the form of St Joseph’s Donard, Poulpeasty, and they’ll be hoping that they can enjoy similar success this year.
After heated competition, the winners in the under 11 category were St Senan’s PS, followed by Murrintown NS in 2nd, Oylegate NS in 3rd and Scoil Naomh Maodhog, Ferns in fourth. In the under 13s, Caim NS came out on top, closely followed by Piercestown NS, Murrintown NS and Courtnacuddy NS.
The Chairman wished the winners all the very best at Chapter level.
