Thankfully the slight improvemen­t in the weather meant competitiv­e golf returned to the club last week. The weekend saw a 15-hole singles stableford played.

Results: 1, Kevin Byrne (19), 32 points; 2, Charlie Logan (12), 31 points; 3, Christy Dodson (22), 28 points, holding off Peter Byrne (22) on countback.

The officers elected by the A.G.M. for 2018 are: President, Patrick Mulvey; Vice-President, Matt O’Connor; Captain, Tim Morrissey; Vice-Captain, John Byrne; lady President, Maeve McCauley; lady Vice-President, Liz Askins; lady Captain, Mary O’Shea; lady Vice-Captain, Elizabeth Browne; Hon. Treasurer, John Casey; Hon. Secretary, Teresa Bailey. Management committee: Senan Lillis, Joe Murphy and Christy O’Connor, with some places still to be filled.

The very last item of the A.G.M. was appointing our elder statesman, Morgan Dunne, as an honorary life member in recognitio­n of his years of dedication and service to our club.

A huge round of applause ensued for this more than worthy recipient and then Morgan, typical of his wit, proposed a motion that the grills be taken off of the bar and get it open quickly!

January 27 and 28, 15-hole singles stableford, sponsored by E.G.C. (67 played): Category A, James Morrissey (6), 38 points; Category B, Declan Lyons (12), 36 points (last one); Category C, John Ryan (19), 33 points.

Saturday and Sunday, February 10 and 11, gents’ competitio­n, sponsored by Enniscorth­y Golf Club, starting at 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, and at 8 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Sunday.
