This week 90 years ago in the Wexford People, an article described what watching the great Blackwater teams of the 1890s was like. The sports journalist describes it as ‘A fancy display required elbow room and a Blackwater player was such a tenacious stickler that he gave no scope for the gallery experts of the game. They played with a grit and determination as to inspire awe and it was only when they met a side equally determined as themselves and with the power to put the qualities into effect could Blackwater the famous hurling parish be subdued.’.
