COMMUNITY GAMES

Bree-Davidstown Community Games 2018 season got off to a great start when the under-10 Draughts team became Co Champions recently. The team of Riona Kehoe, Oisin Harte, Fergal Doyle, Matthew Jordan and Sacha McCauley finished undefeated of the six teams taking part in the final which was held in Bree Community Centre. They won four of their matches as well as drawing in a fifth. This was the first time in sixteen years of the under-10 Co Draughts competitio­n that Bree-Davidstown won this event. Best wishes to the team with subs Luke Jordan and Roise Fraser in the upcoming intercount­y rounds.

The local Community Games was represente­d by three other teams in the county finals. The under-14 team of Katie Doyle, Cillian Dempsey, Travis McCauley, Odhran Kehoe and Luke Jordan were runners-up in their competitio­n and won the silver medals. The under-12 team of Nathan Doyle, Cathal Ennis, Conn Fraser, George Murphy, Charlie Kehoe and Clodagh Dempsey and the under-10 team of Roise Fraser, Rosanne McCauley, Eva Dempsey, Muireann Kehoe and Sarah Jordan all played well but were not among the placings.

CHESS - Bree-Davidstown Chess players were in action in Piercestow­n on Thursday night last. The team of Travis McCauley, Katie Doyle, Oisin Harte, Conn Fraser, George Murphy, Cathal Ennis, Riona Kehoe and Nathan Doyle took part in the under-13.

The under-16 team of Michael Humphrey, Cormac Kehoe, Michael Roche, Odhran Kehoe and Nicholas Howe had no opposition and therefore qualified for the intercount­y rounds. Bree-Davidstown Coaches and Managers for the Draughts are Jim Doyle and Martin Humphrey.

Chess and Draughts classes for this season are now finished.

SCHOOL ENROLMENTS

SN Seosamh Naofa, Bree are now accepting enrolments for September 2018. Enrolment packs can be collected at the school office or you can call the office (053 9247725) for a pack to be posted out. Please return the completed enrolment forms by January 31. The school is also seeking informatio­n for potential enrolments for future years. Please contact the school office to let us know.

BREE AC TRAINING

SMART FITNESS

Smart Fitness continues each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and on Friday morning s at 10.45 a.m. in Galbally Hall. There is a beginners session ‘Get Fit Swinging’ on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

This is suitable for total beginners and those with a basic fitness level. They have a seven-week weightloss challenge running at the moment.

A new Saturday morning Bootcamp takes place at 10.30 a.m. for one hour training and a cuppa or a healthy shake afterwards. For further details contact Collette at 086 3927655 or Facebook ‘Smart Fitness with Collette’. Cost is €7.50 for one class, €13 for two classes or €20 for any three classes.

BREE YOUTH CLUB NEWS

We would like to thank everyone who attended our annual Christmas Carol Singing in aid of HOPE. We had a great turn out on the night and raised money for the charity. Thanks also to members who provided some lovely carols for everyone. We had a great turnout for our run and walk. We raised some much needed funds for the Wexford Women’s and Men’s Refuge. Well done to all our winners on the day and thank you to everyone for their participat­ion and to those who volunteere­d on the day.

END OF YEAR TRIPS – The Senior Youth Club Trip will be to Carlingfor­d on July 15 to July 16. Price is €110. This will include an evening meal, breakfast and lunch and three activities. A payment plan of paying €5 each week will be set up for those interested in going on the trip. The Junior Trip will be to Clara Lara. A payment plan for this will also be set up. Price is €40 and this includes bus journey and admission to the park. Permission slips to be returned as soon as possible.
