Eight goals scored on trip to Camolin

GOREY CELTIC cemented their mid-table spot in Division 3 of the Wexford and District Schoolboys Soccer Under-14 League with a strong performance against hosts Camolin on Saturday.
The Umbro Park boys won the corresponding fixture at the start of the season and they were just as impressive second time around. Right from goalkeeper Odhran Kelly, all the way up to the dynamic Fabio Feitinha, the Gorey lads performed exceptionally.
Despite the best efforts of Camolin, the back four of Evan Kirwan, Adam Redmond, Jake Galvin and the outstanding Manuel Delbino were rock solid.
Only for a true moment of magic from Dylan O’Brien, they would have kept an impressive clean sheet.
However, it was in the final third of the field that Gorey really looked unstoppable. The through balls from the midfield trio of Sergejs Birladjans, Jakub Kaspirwicz and Max O’Neill continually sent the attacking trio through on goal in great positions, and it was difficult for the hosts to defend.
It took just seven minutes for Gorey to take the lead when Feitinha gathered possession in the penalty area and sent a composed strike across goal, past Jason Murphy to the net. Goalscorer turned provider midway through the half and it was Birladjans who provided the classy finish.
Danny Kenny was denied by superb last-gasp defending and J.J. Harnett drilled into the side-netting as Gorey threatened another. They did go in at the break 3-0 to the good after Feitinha sauntered away and sent a composed finish past new stopper Keith Curran.
Camolin gave it a good go in the early stages of the second-half but they found it tough to create clear chances against the impressive visitors’ defence.
The fourth Gorey goal came in the 46th minute when Jack White’s shot whipped off a defender and flew into the top of the net.
Just back on the field after a break, playing in a more advanced position, Jake Galvin cut in from the left and coolly poked low across goal to make it 5-0.
Only a brilliant clearance off the line by Lee Connors prevented Adam Redmond getting in on the scoring act moments later.
Six did arrive when Harnett squeezed a volley into the net from the edge of the area midway through the second-half.
Danny Kenny got the reward for a hard morning’s work when he tapped home number seven from close range after Max O’Neill’s shot was repelled.
Almost from nowhere, Dylan O’Brien took on the Gorey defence and, with the outside of his right boot, sent a sensational shot across goal to the far corner for a Camolin consolation. However, there was still time for Jakub Kaspirowicz to cap a fine performance with a coolly-taken late Gorey goal.
