Beatles gig has the blessing of Macca

February 1995

-

The Beatles extravaganza coming up in White’s Hotel in Wexford this weekend has the blessing of none other than Paul McCartney himself.

It comes thanks to the manner in which organiser Maurice McCarthy was compiling his guest list - the feature of all gigs where select people, such as friends of the band or members of the local press, are allowed in for free.

Maurice decided to go the whole hog with his guest list, and invite none other than Paul McCartney himself.

He wasn’t quite sure when to send the invite to, so he sent two instead. One was addressed simply to ‘Sir Paul McCartney, Mull of Kintyre, Scotland’, and the other was to a London address that he got from another person involved in the music industry.

He’s not sure which letter made it to McCartney, or even if both did, but either last, a letter of reply arrived last Thursday from Sir Paul’s communications company, MPL.

Sadly, the letter stated that the former Fab Four member couldn’t make it to the gig ‘due to a prior commitment’, but it added that Sir Paul wished Maurice and all involved all the best with the concert, and he was sure they would do justice to the music of The Beatles.

The letter was signed by McCartney’s personal secretary, Anna Jaymes, who presumably looks after all such mail for him.

Tickets for the Beatles extravaganza in White’s are continuing to sell fast and it promises to be a great night for all fans of the band.
