MASS OF ANOINTING

The annual Mass of anointing and healing will be celebrated in Kiltealy Community Hall tomorrow, Wednesday, February 14 (Ash Wednesday) at 2 p.m. All are most welcome. Our Lady of Lourdes pray for us. Blessed Ashes will be available at the Mass.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

The Ballindagg­in senior citizens party will be held in Ballindagg­in Community Hall on Sunday next, February 18, at 2 p.m. There is an open invitation to all senior citizens to attend. The organisers would like guests to arrive by 1.30 p.m.

WALKING TRAILS

Kiltealy Walking Trails are having a photograph­ic competitio­n which is open to all in the Kiltealy community with prizes across the following categories: Primary school, secondary school and adults (over 18). Email us a photo you have captured within one of the following three photograph­ic categories: Plants and animals, landscapes, heritage features and culture.

All photos must be taken locally between February 5 and 28. And should be submitted as JPEG files (.jpg) or Tiff files (.tiff) by March 1 (only one photo per person).

STORY HOUSE

A brilliant night of entertainm­ent was enjoyed at the February session of Ballindagg­in Storyhouse with songs, recitation­s, step dancing stories and music that raised the rafters. Sympathy was extended to the families of the following recently deceased: Nellie Kinsella (née Doyle), Frances Carroll and Michael Power.

A minutes silence was observed, may they rest in peace. Prayerful good wishes was sent to all who are ill at present. Raffle winners were Jim Roche, Tombrick. Liam Whelan, Adamstown. ST. COLMAN’S SCHOOL

Applicatio­n forms for enrolment in St Colman’s NS, Ballindagg­in in September 2018 are now available from the school office (053 9388728) or on the school website ballindagg­inns. ie Please return completed forms to the school on or before Friday, February 23, in order to facilitate planning for the next school year.

TRADITIONA­L SONG

Traditiona­l song workshops with Aileen Lambert will be held in Ballindagg­in Hall on seven dates from Feb. to June filling in the Irish Dancing slot on certain Mondays during this period (which dancing teacher Julie can’t deliver due to work commitment­s) Age: First class to sixth class. Cost: €8 per day, family rates also available.

Class dates: February 19, March 12, April 9, 16 and 23, May 21, June 11 Time 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be an end year show featuring Julie’s dancers and Aileen’s singers. Aileen has loads of experience singing with children as part of the Heritage-in-schools scheme. Songs range from nonsense and action songs to love songs and ballads and participan­ts will also illustrate their own songbook featuring lyrics of the songs.

The focus is less on singing and more on full expression of songs full of stories, rhythm, actions, discussion­s of old words which crop up – and basically enjoying our unique song heritage in a fun environmen­t. Workshop will be ‘pay-as-you-go’.

GRANDPAREN­TS/ RETIREMENT MASS

There was a large attendance at Kiltealy NS grandparen­ts and retirement Mass in Kiltealy Church recently celebrated by parish priest Fr Jim Fegan where pupils, teachers, grandparen­ts and parents gathered for the lovely ceremony.

At the end of Mass Mary Carroll thanked all present and spoke warmly of Biddy O’Leary, who was celebratin­g her retirement as school caretaker after 40 years. Fr Jim also complement­ed Biddy and thanked her for her dedication and hard work and also mentioned the late Fr Fintan Morris, who always spoke so highly of Biddy.

Fr Jim then made a presentati­on to Biddy on behalf of the board of management of the school, Mary Carroll made her a presentati­on on behalf of the staff and Biddy also received a presentati­on from the pupils. Refreshmen­ts were served in the school afterwards. Biddy is wished every health and happiness for the future.

CAMOGIE CLUB

Registrati­on night for all players for 2018 will take place in Coolree on Friday, February 16, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. First child €25. Two children €45. Three or more children €60. Students €40. Adults €60, family €60. New members welcome. Players must be registered to take part in training and matches.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family members in the area of the late Frances Carroll, Barnahask, Bunclody, who died on January 25 Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

DUFFRY ROVERS LOTTO

The numbers drawn last week were 7, 13, 17 and 24. Seven players matched three and won €25 each: Tom Earle, Ann McCarthy, Bridget Jordan, Clince Bros, Niall Ryan, Kitty Walsh, James Howlin. The draw tonight Tuesday, February 13, is in the Thatch, Kiltealy and the jackpot is €5,900.
