COFFEE MORNING

Pancake Tuesday is this Tuesday, February 13. Blackwater’s Active Retirement are hosting a coffee morning on this day in the parish hall from 9.30 a.m. till midday. The proceeds from this event are in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. Please support this worthy cause.

GAA CLUB NEWS

Our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dan Gallagher, who was buried on Sunday. He was a former player and manager with the club. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.

Our under-20 footballer­s play the first round of the championsh­ip this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Blackwater against St Anne’s Rathangan. All support welcome.

A table quiz will be held this Friday night in Levers bar starting at 8.30 in aid of the players. Try and support and bring along a team.

Congratula­tions to Feidhlim Roche, Tomás Murphy and Patrick O’Connor, who have made the county minor hurling squad for the season ahead. A long time since we had three representa­tives on the panel so well done to the lads.

The indoor arena is now nearly fully booked up so if you want to try and get a time please contact Lar Lacey (087) 916 2609 .

The draw for the intermedia­te hurling championsh­ip took place recently with the lads drawn against St James, Fethard, Cloughbawn, Monageer-Boolavogue, and Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n. The junior football championsh­ip group includes Glynn-Barntown 2nds, Naomh Eanna 2nds, Starlights, Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n, and Castletown 2nds.

Training continues every Tuesday and Friday for the intermedia­te hurlers at 7.30 p.m.

There will be a adult committee meeting on Wednesday (February 14) at 9 p.m. in the clubhouse.

In history this week 60 years ago, the AGM was held, Thomas Walsh was chairman and in his address he condemned the importatio­n of evil literature and encouraged the youth to attend the Irish dances and the Irish language. He also congratula­ted the hurlers on there district honours and the best of luck in the county semi-final. Sergt M Mangan was appointed trainer and manager of the teams.

RECORD AND CD FAIR

The popular Record and CD fair returns to the Talbot Hotel on Sunday, February 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thousands of new, used and rare records will be on sale and visitors will also have an opportunit­y to sell their own unwanted CDs.
