Drama Festival rescheduled

-

WHILE THE world of the performing arts generally works off the principle of ‘ the show must go on’, the committee of the 55th Wexford Drama Festival were forced to reorganise their dates for this year, and the festival will now start tonight (Tuesday).

The festival was due to start on Thursday evening, but the decision was made on Wednesday to postpone both Thursday and Friday night. Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group had been due to open the festival with their production of Neil Simon’s ‘Rumours’ while Tipperary’s Holycross-Ballycahill were to perform on Friday night.

Saturday night’s show - a performance of Ray Cooney’s ‘Caught in the Net’ by Cork-based Conna Drama Group - was also cancelled.

Following some rearranging, the festival will open tonight (Tuesday), with 2016 All Ireland winners Bridge Drama performing ‘Cash on Delivery’ by Michael Cooney. As a result of the disruption, Bunclody/Kilmyshall’s play will not be performed at this year’s festival but will be adjudicated twice at a separate festival.

The revised festival dates are: March 6, Bridge Drama Group, ‘Cash on Delivery’; March 7, Ballyduff Drama, ‘Albertine in Five Times’; March 8, Coolgreaney Drama Group, ‘Death and the Maiden’; March 9, Ballycogley Players, ‘ The Night Alive’; March 10, Conna Drama Group, ‘Caught in the Net’; March 12, Wexford Drama Group, ‘Proof ’; March 13, Holycross Ballycahill, ‘Bold Girls’.
