Kudos to coach Shane

-

BANDON SPRINTER Phil Healy stole the show on Friday with an excellent display in the 400m heats at the world indoor championships in Birmingham, and there’s a direct Wexford involvement with her ongoing success.

The talented 23-year-old from Cork has been significantly boosted in her preparations by the guiding hand of long-time coach Shane McCormack, a native of Wexford town and son of John and Angela.

Shane, a former Clonard footballer, is attached to the Menapians club and is highly regarded as a sprints coach at national level.

Healy was recently asked in an ‘Irish Examiner’ interview about McCormack’s influence on her career.

‘This is my fifth year with him, and he’s super,’ she told Cathal Dennehy. ‘I get on so well with him and he has a great vibe. It just works.’

That’s high praise indeed for one of our own, so take a bow Shane!
