LATE JOHN (JACK) TOBIN
The death occurred on Tuesday, February 27, of John (Jack) Tobin, Monbeg, Ballindaggin. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Kathleen, to his daughters Patty and Mary and to his sons Gerard, Thomas, Jay and Jamie. Also to his brother Mick, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Jack, as he was known to all was a most popular Ballindaggin man and was held in high esteem by all in the community and over a wide area. He was a dedicated and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all and his passing will leave a void hard to be filled. Jack was laid to rest in a snow covered Ballindaggin cemetery on Thursday last following funeral Mass in St Colman’s Church.
BLIZZARD
People living in Kiltealy and Ballindaggin at the foot of Blackstairs Mountains were among the worst hit by the recent blizzard with all minor roads in the area impassable but especially remote mountain lanes which were inaccessible with huge drifts. Farmers in the area were especially hard hit by the storm as they tended to livestock, even tractors were having difficulty moving. Frozen water pipes caused much hardship for many.
Unlike 1982 everyone were warned well in advance so all households were well prepared with freezers stocked to capacity. The great community spirit in the area means the elderly and people in remote areas are well looked after by neighbours with tractors and quads with no one left wanting for anything during the week long freeze. at time of writing we still have electricity, but it’s still snowing.
There’s an old saying ‘If March comes in like a lion it will go out like a lamb’, well if that’s true we can look forward to nice weather in a few weeks but meanwhile there will be quite a lot of work to be done cleaning up after the blizzard.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Pauline Byrne, Cloroguemore on the recent death of her mother Bridie Deskin, Milltown, Galway. Deepest sympathy also to members of the Hanrahan family on the death of their sister Cathy Horan, Waterford city and formerly Mohurry, Kiltealy, who died on Friday February May 23 they both rest in peace.
FLOWER DEMONSTRATION
Co Wexford Garden and Flower club are holding a gala spring flower demonstration ‘A Sense of Ireland’ by Brenda Joyce AOIFA teacher and demonstrator on Tuesday, March 15, in Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy at 8 p.m. Admission for members €5, non-members €10. There will be a raffle of the exhibits on the night.

You can register for the eight-week programme on the night and avail of the optional and confidential weigh-in and body measurement recording and help support the local clubs underage programme. Last year you helped raise €3,000 while shedding you own few pounds.
There will be circuit fitness and boot camp classes every Tues. And Thurs. night over the eight weeks led by Sinéad Ronan, along with 5km family Sunday walks at various locations in the area some timed, also pilates with Jane Kennedy plus a fun exercise class for kids. There will be prizes for the biggest loser male, female and family. The walking track in Coolree is available to all.
