Jimmy Magee who passed away last September was one of Ireland’s most loved TV personalities, who joined RTE in 1956 and during his long and varied career, he covered 12 World Cups, 13 Olympic Games as well dozens of other events and even had his own TV quiz game show, in which is sporting knowledge and remarkable memory was tested against members of the public. In the days before digital TV, when most of Ireland had only access to two channels, Jimmy Magee was the voice of Irish sport.
