School donation to men’s shed
THE hard work and dedication of the gang at Enniscorthy Men’s Shed was rewarded recently as they received a sizeable donation from St Senan’s Primary School. After the school’s parent’s association were successfully awarded an amenity grant, with the council’s permission, they approached the men’s shed about constructing some quality outdoor furniture for the school.
The men were more than happy to help and the fruits of their labour were outstanding. Principal Oonagh Rackard and everyone at the school were stunned by the quality of the benches and tables that the men were able to construct from their base at St John’s and they now have pride of place on the school grounds.
‘Rather than purchasing benches, we thought we’d approach the men’s shed,’ said Ms Rackard. ‘We bought the materials and they got to work. The things that they came back to us with are stunning quality. We were blown away. It was great to work with the men at the men’s shed and we later learned that some of them actually have grandchildren in the school which is a nice connection.’
As the men’s shed is com- pletely a not for profit organisation, they only received money for materials for the project. However, the school and Parent’s Association felt that they should be repaid for the level of dedication and expertise they brought to the project, so they were delighted to present a donation to Enniscorthy Men’s Shed which included money raised by parent Karen Murphy who ran the Dublin City Marathon.
The money raised will now be spent on tools and materials and the men from the project were delighted with the gesture and delighted seeing their work being put to such good use at the school.
