Kids with BB guns cause concern at Market Square

THERE were one or two panicked phone calls to Enniscorthy Garda Station over the weekend as people feared that there were youngsters going around Market Square with what appeared to be some kind of firearms.

Gardaí received a number of calls from concerned citizens on Saturday. While some people may have jumped the gun (excuse the pun!) and thought that Enniscorthy was the centre of some kind of new Hutch/Kinahan feud, the youngsters were in actual fact armed with BB Guns firing little yellow pellets. Some of the youngsters were making a nuisance of themselves, though, with eggs also reportedly thrown. However, when gardaí arrived at the scene, everything seemed to have quietened down and the youngsters dispersed.

‘ They were only plastic guns, firing little yellow pellets,’ a garda spokesman said. ‘ Thankfully, we’re not at the level where young lads are going around in the streets with real guns!’
