‘No immediate risk of flooding’
WHILE Enniscorthy had been braced for the worst as the snow began to thaw last week, the council are saying that there is no immediate flood risk at the moment.
Some businesses situated in areas prone to flooding began to take precautions last week as it appeared the river level would continue to rise as the snow melted. However, District
Manager Liz Hore says that the council have no concerns at the moment in relation to flooding, but they are continuing to monitor the situation.
‘We had a slow thaw in the lower catchment area in the early days following the snow,’ Ms Hore explained. ‘ Then we had a slow thaw in the upland areas over the weekend, so we have no flood risk at the moment. But we will continue to actively monitor the situation.’
Heavy rainfall over the weekend once again caused concerns among businesses and homeowners situated on the flood plain, however, while the river levels did rise it appears that there’s no immediate danger just yet.
