Red carpet rolled out as club celebrate great year
RAPPAREES/STARLIGHTS GAA CLUB DINNER DANCE
THERE was plenty of glitz and glamour at The Riverside Park Hotel recently as the red carpet was rolled out for the Rapparees/Starlights GAA Club dinner dance.
A crowd of nearly 300 filled the newly renovated ballroom for a look back over a successful year and also to celebrate 100 years of the Starlights football club.
County medals were presented to a total of three teams - the junior camogie team, the U21 footballers and the senior footballers - to rapturous applause. MC on the night was former TD and former club Chairman John Browne and County Chairman Derek Kent also spoke, singling out those involved at inter-county level - Liam Ryan and Kevin Foley with the hurlers and Nick Doyle, Pa Doyle and Darragh Pepper with the footballers - for their contribution to GAA in County Wexford.
Club sponsor Sam McCauley also spoke at the event, commenting on the great work that was being done at Bellefield, resulting in the success that was being celebrated on the night. He also reaffirmed the support of the McCauley Group for the club in terms of sponsorship, despite the fact that he and his wife Leslie are now retired. The club were over the moon as Sam said that he and his wife would be providing sponsorship to complete the outstanding and necessary work at the club’s Bellefield headquarters.
After all the speeches, presentations and announcements, there was nothing left to do but dance the night away to music from American Heart and a DJ, even if some of those players involved at County level had to be careful that they didn’t thrown too many shapes ahead of the weekend’s league fixtures!
