1 VINTAGE ROAD RUN: The Shamrock Vintage Club will hold its annual road run on Sunday, April 1. The club has raised tens of thousands of euros for good causes down through the years. Starting at 1 p.m. from the hall car park in Adamstown. Registrati­on is from 11.30 a.m. The route will take place through the numerous town loads from Knockreigh and Oldcourt through Robinstown, Knockroe, Kathy’s Cross, Kehoe’s Cross, Lacken, Old Ross, Moorfields, Courthoyle, The Boola, Misterin and back to Adamstown, a distance of just 20 miles. A three course hot lunch will be served to all entrants and a draw for prizes in Coláiste Abbain. All vehicles are welcome. They must be insured and drivers must be 16 years or older. The proceeds will go to Coláiste Abbain towards the cost of furniture for a new canteen. 2 THE SCOURGE: Wexford writer Michelle Dooley Mahon in a one-woman play based on her book Scourged, a memoir about her late mother Siobhan’s battle with the Alzheimer’s illness that silenced her. The show which was commission­ed by Wexford Arts Centre with support from Artlinks, is directed by the acclaimed Ben Barnes, former artistic director of the Abbey Theatre. Michelle, who has been writing since she was a child, was the recipient of a Dylan Thomas Literary Residency in Sweden and has performed her work in the Spiegelten­t. The Scourge will run for 10 performanc­es at Wexford Arts Centre between Thursday, March 29 (preview) and Saturday, April 7, including two Saturday matinees. 3 ALL SHOOK UP: Enniscorth­y Musical Society present their 45th production at Coláiste Bríde next week when they stage ‘All Shook Up’, a musical inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. Set in a square little town in 1955, it features classic Elvis numbers, including ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’, and ‘Don’t Be Cruel’. Directed by Imelda McDonagh, with musical direction from Kevin Kennedy and choreograp­hy by AnneMarie Cooney, ‘All Shook Up’ is a hip-swiveling, lipcurling musical fantasy that will have audiences jumping out of their blue suede shoes. The show runs from Tuesday, April 3 to 7 in Coláiste Bríde. Tickets are €15/12 and are available now from 087 4395 057 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - please do not leave voicemails or text messages. 4 DYLAN, DYLAN AND ME: Local writer Jackie Hayden will offer a fascinatin­g insight into the connection between poet Dylan Thomas and musician Bob Dylan in a talk to be held at Wexford town library tonight (Tuesday, March 27). ‘Dylan, Dylan and Me’ documents how music writer Hayden discovered the Welsh poet through the works of The Beatles and Bob Dylan who expressed his own admiration for the poet by adopting his name. Jackie will share his enthusiasm for both Dylan Thomas and Bob Dylan, reflecting on the connection between poetry and song lyrics in the wake of Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize for Literature. Jackie is the author of ‘Love and Theft? Bob Dylan’s Celtic Odyssey’ and ‘A Map of Love - Around Wales with Dylan Thomas’. Admission is free but booking is recommende­d on 053 91 96760. 5 WAITING FOR GODOT: The acclaimed Druid presents Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett at the National Opera House from Friday, March 30 to 31, at 8 p.m. with a matinee performanc­e at 2 p.m. on March 31. Waiting for Godot is a masterpiec­e that draws endless interpreta­tions. Directed by Garry Hynes, Druid present a new production of this seminal work featuring members of its ensembleP: Garrett Lombard as Lucky, Aaron Monaghan as Estragon, Rory Nolan as Pozz and Marty Rea, as Vladimir. The creative tream is Director - Garry Hynes, Design - Francis O’Connor, Lighting Design - James F Ingall and Sound Design - Greg Clarke. Box office: 053 912 2144 6 AXE THROWING: THE Axe Club are running a unique and engaging course on the fastgrowin­g sport of axe throwing with an Introducti­on to Axe Throwing Course at the Irish National Heritage Park on April 7 and other dates. The course includes: Introducti­on to axe throwing safety with Flying Angel Axes, includes self-coaching and technique; practice throws then a mini-tournament with other participan­ts; traditiona­l Tomahawk throwing, practice with coaching; and Internatio­nal championsh­ip double bit axe throwing, coaching, competitio­n regulation­s and target design. Bookings on 053 2120733. 7 ENDA O’DOHERTY TALK: Inspiratio­nal speaker Enda O’Doherty will give a talk on ‘The Best Your Child Can Be’ in the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey on Thursday, March 29, at 7.30 p.m. The talk by Enda, who carried a washing machine on his back from Belfast to Waterford, is for parents, educators and coaches. All proceeds will be donated to Talk to Tom, the suicide prevention and interventi­on charity. Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for under-18s. Enda understand­s the ups and downs of schools and the many challenges facing children. Topics include: how can we develop mental toughness; control and harness anxiety; and motivation.
