Garda and Army bands set for Strawberry Fair

-

THERE will be plenty of music at this year’s Strawberry Fair, Street Rhythms and Roots Festival over the June bank holiday as the Garda Síochána Band have confirmed that they will be in attendance along with the Army’s No. 1 band.

Both bands are set to play outdoor concerts in the Market Square on Saturday, June 2 and, in the event of inclement weather, arrangements have been made for them to perform in St Mary’s Church of Ireland.

Plans are well underway for this year’s programme of events and the Street Rhythms Festival looks set to be a real crowd puller for children and adults alike. Centred around Enniscorthy Castle, its theme this year is ‘love’ and the festival has even engaged the services of international match-maker Willy Daly of Lisdoonvarna, who will make his first ever visit to Enniscorthy. According to the Irish Bucket List of 101 things to do and see in Ireland, the Strawberry Fair is the third most popular event in Ireland where ‘true love’ is found.

Another new addition to this year’s festival will be the Treacy’s Hotel sponsored bungee jump event planned for Abbey Quay. Any dare-devils who take part will be entertained free of charge in the hotel’s D-Bar on the Sunday night.

As well as this, the Strawberry Queen competition, as always, is expected to generate great inter- est and indications are there will be record number of princesses vying to take the crown in the Market Square on the Sunday night. They will be introduced to the public at The Strawberry Fair Ball in The Riverside Park Hotel on Thursday, May 31.
