Barntown attack shines

- BRENDAN FURLONG

GLYNN-BARNTOWN 1-18 STARLIGHTS 1-6

A SUPERIOR forward line paved the way as Glynn-Barntown totally dominated this Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior football championship Group B game with Starlights at the Ferns Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

When Ian Moran struck for a seventh-minute goal despite playing into the wind and rain, it was clearly evident that there was only going to be only one result.

It gave the eventual winners a 1-2 to 0-1 lead, after quickfire opening points from Dylan Lyne and Craig Doyle, with John Murphy managing the Starlights score in between.

Starlights, despite having the elements in their favour in the first-half, were unable to make any worthwhile impression in attack.

Brendan Kearney kicked three points, one from a free, to keep them in touch but with Craig Doyle and Ian Moran responding with points, Glynn-Barntown went in with a six-point interval lead (1-7 to 0-4).

Glynn-Barntown made the most of the elements on the resumption with three unanswered points through Jack Brazzill, Dylan Lyne and Aaron Kehoe inside the opening five minutes.

They were leading by 1-15 to 0-4 at the end of the opening quarter as Brazzill, Lyne, Craig Doyle and Matthew Joyce all kicked over excellent points.

Although Starlights tried hard to resurrect the situation, they clearly lacked scoring power, having to wait until the 54th minute for their opening second-half score, a Neil McCrea pointed free.

They followed with further points through substitute Michael Dempsey before Jason Russell found the net one minute from the end, but by then the result was a foregone conclusion, as the eventual winners closed out the game with a neat point from substitute Liam Berry.
