Wide open stake decider

THE RED Mills Easter unraced stake is now at the final stages at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, and this week’s decider is wide open as the draw has made it difficult to call a clear favourite.

The first semi-final saw Boylesport Boom continue his winning run for new owner John Boyle, but it wasn’t until the third bend before he took control and he will have to be at his very best this week from the tricky trap six draw.

The second semi went to the Henry Kelly-owned Karlow Eddie who upset the odds-on favourite Ninja Burgess who has been disappointing in his latest efforts.

Again, he will have to come back to his best if he is to win the final. He was ran out of second spot by Blackhall Rock who could prove the value bet in what looks a very open final.

Enniscorthy trainer John Kavanagh enjoyed a nice double in races one and three, with Falcon Blitz setting the best of the night time of 28.77 in a very good run, while Liam’s Choice was fast away in the third race to complete the double in 29.50.

Barntown owner George Roche is enjoying a fine run of luck of late, and he scored a nice win on Thursday in heat two of the Roban Financial 600 yards stake as his Reckatneheff came through to score in a time of 33.54.

On Friday at Shelbourne Park, his Ballinaboola Net scored in race four. And completing a very good week for George, he enjoyed a very good win in race six as his Headford Iso scored in the Permanent TSB A2 final.

The April Stakes is due to get under way this Thursday night, and this is always a very good competitive event.
